Messaging Clarity: Say What You Do

Based on 30,134 analyzed homepages.

If a visitor can't tell what your product does in 3 seconds, nothing else on the page matters. Not your design, your CTAs, or your pricing. Clarity is the foundation.

What This Score Measures

Hero text specificity, action verb usage, jargon density, above-fold messaging completeness, and whether a stranger could describe the product in 5 words.

Why It Matters

Visitors don't read. They scan. Your hero text gets 3 seconds of attention. If it uses metaphors, buzzwords, or abstract language, visitors bounce before reaching your features section.

How to Improve Your Score

  1. Hero text should pass the 'stranger test': could someone who's never heard of you describe what you do after reading it?
  2. Use specific verbs: 'Track revenue,' 'Send invoices,' 'Monitor uptime', not 'Empower teams' or 'Transform workflows.'
  3. Keep the hero under 15 words. Every word over that is a word visitors won't read.
  4. Name the category: 'Email marketing for e-commerce' tells visitors exactly where they are. 'The platform that does more' doesn't.
  5. Avoid 'platform' and 'solution' unless you're genuinely a platform. These words have been stripped of meaning.
